Some children need extra support at some point during their school life. They may have greater difficulty in learning than other children of their age, or an emotional or behavioural need which affects their progress.
Children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
At Gillespie we have a SEND Coordinator who works with children, teachers and parents to provide the extra support necessary. We attempt to identify children with special needs as early as possible through monitoring and observation. Once identified, an Individual Education Plan is drawn up for each child. These are reviewed three times a year with parents or carers. Children will also be consulted whenever possible.
Our SEND leader works with the class teachers, specialist support teachers and teaching assistants to help meet the needs of pupils in the school. In this section you can find our Special Educational Needs and Disability Policy and the Gillespie Local Offer which provides information about the SEND services at the school.
