The Governors work with the Headteacher and his staff to set the general direction of the school. They don’t tell the staff what to teach or how. Instead, they provide oversight which means understanding what is going on, asking questions and making sure if something is not going well, plans are in place to improve it.
They are responsible for the finances of the school and for making sure resources are used to give the children the best possible education.
Governors are volunteers made up of staff, parents and members of the local community.
There are several types of Governor including Parent Governors, Staff Governors, the Headteacher, Local Authority Governors and Co-opted Governors.
