The London Youth Games is where the best teams from every London borough get to play each other in a competition.  The majority of competitions that we enter feed into the youth games. All 33 London boroughs have a team entered in every sport and on Wednesday 9th March Gillespie’s boys played in the year 5/6 football.

We were in a group with Sutton, Bromley, City of London and Brent. We played well in all the matches (apart from one where we let the opposition win 4-0!) and topped the group with 7 points. We were then through to the last 16 group stage. In this group we were with Richmond, Bromley and Bexley. It was a tough group and all teams played well (Richmond were outstanding and topped the group.) Sadly, we went out on goal difference and so didn’t progress to the finals. It was a fantastic day with brilliant football played by all the boroughs. We came joint 9th out of 33 which is something to be very proud of.

I would like to say a special thanks to Sami who came along as our ‘super sub’ but sadly due to the pace of each game didn’t get to play. He took this with great grace and was an amazing support for the team. Thanks Sami.

Well done Sammy (captain), Ethan, James, Finn, Tyler, Sean, Freddie and Sami.
