With just a few lunchtime sessions under their belts and an hour with Denise, the Gillespie Girls cricketers headed off to Wray Crescent on Friday 20th May.

There were 7 schools there on the day and we were split into 2 groups. In ours were Canonbury and St. Mary Mags. We played Mary Mags first and our skills and nerves were tested. The girls played some good cricket, but they lost 4 wickets which was a loss of 20 runs. We lost the match.

Next up we faced Canonbury and the girls had found their rhythm. Hetty and Katie were a strong partnership as were Maddy (who is just year 3!) and Choi-Ying. We won that game.

We made it through the group stage in second place so had a 3rd and 4th place play off against Pakeman. It was a really close match but the girls were brilliant and won.

As well as coming away with a bronze medal, they also got the Fair Play award – 2 medals in one day is always good! Well done girls, I am delighted that you made such a strong start.
