On Wednesday 18th May, Zac, Naomi, Nojus and Mila from Year 4 went to the Islington Tennis Centre to take part in the Islington Year3/4 Tennis tournament. The talk on the short tube ride to Caledonian Road involved some pretty intense discussions about the type of ball they’d be using, the length of rackets and whether they had a colour or not. I have to admit, before yesterday I thought that all tennis balls were green, that there were two types of racket (big and small) and I had no idea about colours! Safe to say, I learnt a lot and when it comes to tennis, these four know their stuff.

There were about 12 Islington schools there, some with two teams, and we were split into 4 groups. As we were playing as a team and not individuals, whether we went through to the semi-finals depended upon how many games we won as a team, not individually. Zac started us off by winning his first match against Newington Green, almost with all aces! Out of our 12 matches in that round we won 8 and everyone won at least one game! After lunch, the winners of each group were announced. The first name… Gillespie!

In the semi-finals we played Sacred Heart A. All four of our players, played really well and there were some really close matches but unfortunately we lost 3 matches to 1. Zac, Naomi, Nojus and Mila were all fantastic though and we finished joint third with Sacred Heart B.  An ACE day! Excuse the pun…
