What is blood made up of?

In this lesson we learned how blood is made. We made models of blood and included everything blood contains.

Blood contains 55% of plasma, < 1% of white blood cells, platelets and other chemicals. Then comes the red blood cells. This is what colour your blood is and without your red blood cells you could die because you would have only plasma running through your body with platelets and white blood cells.

Plasma

Plasma is a liquid which is actually yellow and for this we used golden syrup to represent the plasma in our model.

Red blood cells

The red blood cells are cells which carry oxygen and also carbon dioxide out of your body.

White blood cells

The white blood cell is a cell which keeps your body safe from harmful microbes. They give of antitoxins. They also surround the harmful microbe and they then break it down and they make antibodies too.
