01 Jul Gillespie Summer Fair

Dear Gillespie Teachers, Parents and Carers, Pupils, Friends…..

Despite the less than ideal weather this year, we had a great turnout to make the most of the great stalls and the excellent entertainment which lead to us raising nearly £3500 (after expenses) to help fund some rewarding activities for the children for the forthcoming year.

Once again Highbury Fields School Band started the event with some great music and provided a real festival atmosphere, so a big “thank you” to them and their teacher Dan for giving up their Saturday afternoon.

There were a great selection of stalls as usual with some new additions this year including the cricket run by Andy and Jonny and the craft stall by Louise & Katie.

The “Try-Athlon” (run by Richard, Sadie, Mike and Annabel) was won by Larianna in the Under 8’s and by Josh for the over 8’s (only just beating his brother Eugene). The “Trim Trail Olympics” (Sean, Tom, Reg, Jonny) was won by Lucy for the under 7’s and Josh (again) for the over 7’s.

Amazingly ALL the raffle tickets were sold this year, so much that we had to resort to an emergency supply! The One Direction tickets were obviously a big draw. This raised over £1000 so thanks to everyone for their support and to those who helped sell the tickets. A huge thank you to Louisa, Kat and Jenny for continuing to obtain such an amazing set of prizes (…again) – please support these local businesses as they have supported us.

Finally, of course, such an event cannot take place without huge amounts of help and support from a wide variety of people, so we’d like to say a big to everyone who helped, in particular, to:

The Estate Agent Bennett Mason for their generous support
“DJ Clegg” (with his last appearance) and “Paul Piebury” for becoming the new “DJ Clegg”
The Bengali dancers and Reba, for their excellent dancing show
Professor Palmermoff for his excellent tricks and magic show and Emily for her super storytelling
The BBQ team (Leroy, Nick, Bernhard, Steve) who slaved over the cooker for 3 hours
The Paella team (Iain, Darren, Ryan) who once more made a splendid dish
The Food & Cake team (Siobahn, Nicky, Carmel, Val, Tanya, Hannah) and everyone who supplied items including an excellent Biryani from Parbin
Louise R, Louise P, Anja, Anne-Marie & Fiona, Sacha for selling loads of tokens & tickets at the front desk
Jane & Jean for keeping the bar going
Trish and Sue for providing the pizza’s and hot dogs – it is Trish’s last year (thank you) but now that Sue has served her 5 year apprenticeship, we are sure she will be in a position to be in charge next year!
Seema, Reba, Rachel, Blue, Katarina, Johanna, Katherina, Lisa, Jodie, Kate, Becky, Sandra, Jenna, Angela, Aisha, Idil, Sumaya and Zareen (phew!) who helped on tattoos, henna, face-painting, nails & make-up
Nadia for the sweet stall, Ruth for the excellent Ethiopian coffee and Suprina for the Neal’s Yard stall
Gunnersaurus and last but by no means least, ALL the parents & teachers who helped out in the preparations and on the day manning the stalls (apologies if I have missed anyone)
Until next year…
