World War II
This term our topic has been World War 2. We have really enjoyed learning about the war and have been lucky enough to have a visitor, go on a trip, make models and much more…
We learnt about rationing and tried out a World War 2 recipe in our Lab_13. It was basically eggy bread with a little sugar on top – we thought it was yummy!
We found out about Anderson Shelters as well as how the government encouraged people to grow their own food. As part of our learning we made models of World War 2 gardens, complete with vegetable patch and shelter containing bunk beds, potty, candles and so on…
We were also lucky enough to visit HMS Belfast where we found out about a sailors life during the war as well as having a visitor in to see us in class. Sylvia came in to talk to us about what it was like being a child during the war. She brought in some photos, ration books and even the pin her father was given once the war was over for serving in the Navy. Sylvia told us all about what it was really like in London and what happened to her when she was evacuated. It was great to talk to someone who had actually been there!
